Taking care of your pup’s teeth is super important (I know, easier said than done). You know life gets in the way sometimes or you just want to play with your dog instead of fighting with them. I am here to tell you there is a fun and easier way to HELP keep plaque off that are fun for your pups. Now I am not saying that this should be a replacement for brushing your dog’s teeth, but this should help keep plaque off of them. 5 years ago, Teeny, my dachshund had to have 3 teeth removed because one was bad, and the others were cracked. After that day I promised myself I wasn’t going to put her and my wallet through that again LOL. Here is the secret to helping keep plaque off. Dental chews are always a good way to help keep the breath fresh.

I like to use for my dogs:

Merrick fresh Kisses

Easily digestible chews I use for my dogs:

  • No Hides- They come in all different sizes for a little dog to a big dog. They also have different flavors- Chicken, pork, salmon, beef, and peanut butter- they are also slowly making different flavors
    • This chew has NO rawhide in it * Hint It’s why its name is “No hide”. This chew is made from rice flour and the flavoring.
    • These chews get softer while they chew it and USUALLY does not break off.
    • Most of the time you will find these at your local pet stores or online.
    • They run in the $1.99- $19.99 range. They are a bit pricey, but I like these the best.
  • Whimzees- Has different shapes of chews. All the shapes are fun and will help keep plaque off your pup’s teeth.
    • These are potato-based chews. They come in different colors of green, orange, and tan.
    • These chews can break easily so make sure you get the correct size for your dog. If you have a big dog do not get the small ones, get the medium or large
    • They also come in fun sizes for example there is a hedgehog one, alligator, and a toothbrush-looking one.
    • Depending on if you want individual chews, which Chewy, PetSmart, Petco and local pet stores will sell, or bundle packages, the price will range.
  • Bully Sticks- Bully sticks are pretty popular for a dog’s digestible chew.
    • They are a good chew to help keep plaque off.
    • This can be found at PetSmart, Petco, Chewy, and you even might get lucky at other stores since they are really popular.

Things that your pup chews constantly will help keep plaque off. I prefer to give my dogs easy digestible chews because I had an incident with a bone that wasn’t digestible. For example, a Nylabone. It is also a good way to keep your dog busy and have them have a good time, but don’t get me wrong you should still brush your pup’s teeth to keep their breath nicely fresh and HELP keep the plaque off. It is extremely important. But as always, there is a fun way to make an important task into something enjoyable for them.

Where to find them:

  • Whimzees, bully sticks, and fresh kisses can be found online (Amazon, Chewy, etc.) and PetSmart and Petco both carry these products.
  • No hides can be found online on Amazon and your local dog store.
